The BriteSmile teeth whitening system and the Zoom teeth whitening system

Another popular teeth whitening system is the BriteSmile manufactured by Discus Dental Inc. which also manufactures the Zoom teeth whitening system. BriteSmile uses a weaker hydrogen peroxide solution (15%) and a pH of 6.5. It also comes with its own bleaching light using a light-emitting diode which does not produce a heating effect on teeth during treatment. In contrast, the Zoom teeth whitening system by the same manufacturer uses a bit stronger bleaching solution (32%) and the pH varies between 7.5 and 9. The bleaching light used by the Zoom system has an infrared filter thus preserving the teeth from the harmful heating effect.

Considering all the teeth whitening options (weighing professional laser teeth whitening and domestic procedures) as well as consulting with your dentist before undergoing the whitening procedure can help you achieve quick and visible results with little concern about risks for the health status of your teeth.

This whitening system is produced by Johnson & Johnson and has a long and active history for manufacturing teeth whitening products. The bleaching agent is again hydrogen peroxide but the solution is not so strong as the one used by the LaserSmile system (about 25%). In contrast, the pH is 8.5 which triggers the risk of teeth sensitivity. This professional whitening kit also comes with its own light unit called The Rembrandt Sapphire, which filters out the infrared emissions thus avoiding the heating effect on the treated teeth.

LaserSmile teeth whitening system

November 5th, 2008 — 1:25pm

Manufactured by Biolase Technology Inc., this whitening system is probably the best known and widely trusted. It utilizes the LaserSmileT diode laser and uses a hydrogen peroxide-based bleaching gel. The hydrogen peroxide concentration is about 37% and the pH is around 7. The LaserSmile teeth whitening system is proven to achieve visible results in teeth whitening but a serious concern with this systems is that the LaseeSmileT laser produces a heating effect. During the whole whitening procedure which lasts about half an hour every tooth is likely to receive about 2 to 4 minutes of exposure to the laser’s output which makes the risk of teeth sensitivity after the procedure almost insignificant.

There is also another concern among dental specialists as to the application of laser light to achieve teeth whitening. This is the heating effect of the laser light. Although not all dentists believe that there is an association between the amount of heat generated by the laser and the teeth sensitivity, pain and tissue damage sometimes experiences after the application of such procedures, there are still professionals that choose not to incorporate laser teeth whitening treatment. Modern lasers generate less light than those used in the past because they use a filter to remove infrared emissions of the light thus making the concern about teeth discomfort not so relevant.
With all pros and cons of laser teeth whitening being listed above, there is a natural necessity to list the most common laser whitening kits used by dental professionals. Most of the names will certainly ring a bell as they are heavily advertised.
